A CHINESE developer has filed plans for what will be one of the world’s thinnest towers.

The super luxury 24-storey building, which will be known as Kaia, is planned for a beachfront site on The Esplanade at Surfers Paradise just metres from Cavill Ave.

Put forward by developer Liang Sun through his company Vividly, it will have 20 four-bedroom apartments across its 21 residential levels and will replace Driftwood, a small two-storey four-unit block.

HOW COAST STREET IS BECOMING FAST FOOD MECCA

A planning report which will go before councillors describes the project as a having “a leadership role” in terms of contemporary architecture.

“It is an innovative and efficient building design on a constrained infill development site that has no capacity to be amalgamated,” the report said.

“It represents an innovative high-rise tower that advances the Gold Coast’s iconic skyline and demonstrates how infill development can be successfully undertaken within the light rail urban renewal corridor and the city’s centres.”

It is the latest super-thin tower proposed for the Gold Coast.

In early 2017 the Gold Coast Bulletin revealed plans for a $200 million, 44-storey residential project planned for Wharf St in southern Surfers Paradise.

It included 35 “skyhome” units taking out entire storeys with a floorplan ranging from 346-414 sqm, a two-level sub-penthouse and a three-storey penthouse.

That unnamed project, put forward by Brisbane-based developer Golden Gate Property, was to be 154m high and just 12m wide, giving it one of the tightest slender ratio’s in the world.

While approved by council the project is yet to be built.
