Jeff “Hutcho” Hutchison is being remembered as a “great man” who always had a smile on his face.
Mr Hutchison, a life member of North Burleigh Surf Life Saving Club, died last week following a long illness.
He is survived by his wife Nicole and children Corey and Mikayla.
The couple renewed their vows in March 2022.
Friends and family will farewell him on June 27 at a memorial at the surf club he devoted so much of his time, energy and love to, during which his ashes will be spread off the coast from the IRB surf boat which was named for him.
“We will remember Hutcho as a great Club man who held many positions at North Burleigh and gave so much of his time to train, coach and support his fellow members, always with a smile and a laugh. He will be sorely missed around the club,” the club said in a statement.
Friends have taken to social media to pay tribute to the many they loving called “Hutcho”.
Suzie Hudson said Mr Hutchison was “a great man around the surf club and always was there for all” while Alena Smith called him a “a school mate, a patrol mate and a good friend” who was “an amazing human”.
Geoff Reid praised Mr Hutchison for his tireless community work.
“What can you say about Hutcho, he’s been there done that. Loved lifesaving and the amount of knowledge he’s passed on to do many people.
“He took me out one day in pretty big surf doing no more than 5 knots. Great on passing on his knowledge and passion for Nth Burleigh and Surf Lifesaving.
“RIP buddy.”
