Up to 10 residential houses in suburban Palm Beach will be demolished to make way for a new shopping centre and dining precinct.
Plans have been lodged with the Gold Coast City Council for the Java Neighbourhood Centre, which is earmarked for a 2013sq m site on Philippine Parade.
The two-storey complex will have retail and dining facilities as well as commercial and office tenancies on its upper level.
The plans, lodged by Philippine Holdings Pty Ltd, show the project, just a short distance from the future route of the light rail.
The developer says it “reflects a contemporary and attractive low-rise form that addresses the sites active frontages to Philippine Parade and Third Ave”.
The planning report for the project describes it as being inspired by the design of classic cars and informed by the Gold Coast’s history.
“Philippine Parade draws upon Gold Coast’s legacy and nostalgia,” the report reads.
“The design endeavours to establish a unique identity that seamlessly combines tradition with innovation.
“The design concept focuses on rhythm, employing articulation and visual interest to craft a dynamic exterior that enriches the urban landscape with vibrancy and character.”
It comes two years after plans were lodged with council to redevelop the existing shopping centre on the western side of Philippine Parade.
The project will go before council’s planning committee later this year.
