A FLOORER accused of beating a man at a Coomera gym will have to wait months to find out if he will face trial due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Dallas Morgan is accused of helping beat Jake Karlovsky at the World Gym Coomera in February this year.

Morgan has been charged with grievous bodily harm.

Police allege Mr Karlovsky was working out in the gym when James Mau-u approached him and began beating him with a 5kg weight plate.

Mau-u has been charged with grievous bodily harm.

It is alleged Morgan then began to beat Mr Karlovsky.

Mr Karlovsky was supposed to give evidence in a committal hearing at the Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday but has moved to Albury on the New South Wales-Victoria border.

Due to the pandemic, Mr Karlovsky cannot come to Queensland to give evidence without quarantining and no videolink was available.

The court was told it could take until next year to find an available date for a videolink.

Four people who witnessed the aftermath of the incident told the court how they saw Mr Karlovsky at the end of the gym with blood on his face.

Niko Prior said he was working out when he heard a loud bang.

“I saw one man on the ground and another man with a weight plate swinging it down,” he told the court.

It is alleged Mau-u was the man with the weight.

Mr Prior said he looked away because he did not want to get involved.

He told the court he later saw the man who hit Mr Karlovsky leave with another man.

Retired Australian Army veteran Adrian Heidt told the court how he stood between a man alleged to be Mau-u and Mr Karlovsky to try and break up the fight.

“No one told me there was a fight but it was pretty evident,” he said.

“He was on the ground and his face was pretty busted up,” he said.

Mr Heidt said he did not remember a second man being involved.

Nurse Sydney Rickhard said he saw the end of the fight but said he did not see anyone yelling any encouragement.

Magistrate Kathleen Payne adjourned the matter to November 16 when a date for Mr Karlovsky to give evidence would be determined.

It will then be determined if Morgan will stand trial in the Southport District Court.

Mau-u has been committed to stand trial in the district court in the coming months.
