A COVID-19 protest has taken shape out the front of the Gold Coast Council Chambers after Monday’s truckie rally on the M1.

The subdued rally on Bundall Rd was described as a “silent protest” by those in attendance on Tuesday morning.

Barricades were erected blocking vehicles from being driven to the front of the Gold Coast City Council building.

Queensland Police officers guarded the entrance to the Council Chambers and were happy to help facilitate a polite and peaceful protest.

A participant of the protest said: “This is a silent protest following on from the truckers yesterday.

“It’s about having a choice over vaccination.”

Another member of the Council Chambers protest said: “This is about our choice of freedom”.

All walks of life have attended the protest from the elderly to parents with their young children.

The only action that raised a police officer’s eyebrow was a man screaming “fake news, you’re the devil” at a working journalist and media representatives trying to provide coverage on the rally.

The light murmurs from the well behaved crowd became silent about 10am.

The crowd turned their back on the Council Chambers and the only noise breaking the silence were barking dogs.

After about half an hour the hundreds of protesters moved slowly towards the chambers with their backs still facing the building.

The silence remained for hours.

Around midday the crowd moved from the area and the protest was over.

A Queensland Police spokesperson said no trouble or charges came from the event.
