UPDATE: A day after LNP attacked Commonwealth Games Minister Kate Jones for spending too much time “swanning around” the Gold Coast she is back.

The Labor Member for Cooper (formerly Ashgrove) - dubbed ‘Queen of the Gold Coast’ by LNP’s Games Shadow John-Paul Langbroek - was at Carrara sports stadium this morning overseeing athletics track being laid ahead of the Games in April.

Ms Jones used the visit to highlight new unemployment figures showing it at 4.8 per cent on the Gold Coast, attending with Bonney candidate Rowan Holzberger and Gaven candidate Meaghan Scanlon.

The two seats are being considered crucial to Labor’s chances ahead of polling day this Saturday.

On the new unemployment figure, Ms Jones said: “Under (LNP leader) Tim Nicholls it was six per cent. Only a Labor Government can deliver lower unemployment.

“If people want jobs on the Gold Coast we need to get these two over the line on Saturday,” she said.

Ms Jones Carrara stand-up comes a day after she featured in an LNP-approved attack ad in letterboxes around Cooper yesterday.

The flyers derided her for never being there and spending too much time on the Coast.

She defended it by saying as Games Minister she had a responsibility which she took very seriously to spend time in the city hosting the sporting extravaganza.

“When you stand here seeing the track being laid you can almost imagine Sally Pearson running around it.”

EARLIER: LABOR’S Commonwealth Games Minister Kate Jones is on the warpath after a political ad attacking her used the event’s trademarked mascot.

She has written to the Gold Coast Games organising committee (GOLDOC) claiming LNP campaign director Lincoln Folo has used mascot Borobi’s images without GOLDOC approval.

A flyer — authorised by L Folo — in letterboxes around her Cooper seat in Brisbane says Miss Jones is “never here” because she is more interested in “swanning around the Gold Coast”.

“Cooper deserves a local MP, not someone who thinks she is Queen of the Gold Coast,” the flyer says, featuring six photos of her at Coast events including one with star Chris Hemsworth and another with Borboi.

Two weeks ago GOLDOC ordered LNP’s Southport MP Rob Molhoek to remove a sign in, Southport featuring unauthorised use of Borobi.

Miss Jones has written to GOLDOC calling for it to investigate a second unauthorised use of Borobi in LNP political material.

“How many times do the LNP have to be warned against using Commonwealth Games logos in a political way?”

She shrugged off criticism about spending too much time on the Coast, saying she was committed to Cooper but took her Games role seriously which meant devoting time to the city where it would be held.

LNP Member for Surfers Paradise and Games Shadow John-Paul Langbroek said her complaint was “clutching at straws”.
