BOROBI has been dragged into the Gold Coast election campaign with a candidate ordered to remove his signs.

GOLDOC earlier today ordered Southport MP Rob Molhoek to remove a sign on the corner of Ferry Road and Queen Street, Southport for unauthorised use of Borobi.

The sign featured a picture of Mr Molhoek with his arm around the Commonwealth Games mascot and was deemed to be a breach of Goldoc’s intellectual property.

“GOLDOC has been made aware of election signage featuring the use of Borobi’s image,” a GOLDOC spokeswoman said.

“As with any breach of GOLDOC intellectual property the brand protection team will seek to have the material removed.”

It is understood all candidates will be asked to remove pictures of Borobi unless they have permission from GOLDOC.

Mr Molhoek said he and Borobi were “great mates”.

“We have been photographed a number of times,” he said.

“(The photo) was taken at an event at Parliament House.”

Mr Molhoek said he had used a number of photos of Borobi on his social media previously and has not had any complaints.

“I am not sure how you get permission to use a ‘stuffed toy’,” he said.

The MP also has a 1.25m high stuffed Borobi toy which spent yesterday travelling in the car with the candidate.

Mr Molhoek will now remove the sign.
