IT has been a ruff few weeks for Sam Rollinson, who said goodbye his best mate and Instafamous surfing dog, PorkChops.
The Mermaid Beach community rallied around the Gold Coaster after his beloved British bulldog died from a heart attack – a condition that is sadly common for the breed.
But a new furry friend has given Mr Rollinson has a new leash on life.
He was given a Golden Retriever puppy called Chino from sponsors Ipromea and breeders Activ Goldens.
“She doesn’t replace PorkChops, but she’s just a new best friend to have for the future,” Mr Rollinson said.
“I knew I would want another dog eventually and it didn’t necessarily need to be another British bulldog.
“It just so happens that the best surfing dog in the world is a Golden Retriever called Ricochet, so she is the perfect breed to train to surf so we can continue PorkChops’ legacy.”
It’s hoped Chino will be able to expand her skills by learning to ride a horse as well.
About 30 of PorkChops’ closest friends held a “paddle out” memorial and barbecue send off for the surfing dog.
“He was a very unique dog – one in a million,” Mr Rollinson said.
Chino will takeover the PorkChops Instagram page that has more than 167,000 followers.
