MORE Aussies are moving to Southport than any other area in Queensland as the Glitter Strip attracts record levels of migration, a new report finds.
The Muval Index 2021, to be released Monday, also placed Surfers Paradise and Robina in the top 10 list of most popular Queensland suburbs where people are moving to.
Surfers Paradise was seventh, while Robina sits at eight.
GOLD COAST’S CHEAPEST LAND AND HOUSES REVEALED
The report was commissioned by Muval – an online search engine for vetted removalists.
Ex Sydneysider Elle Brown relocated to the Gold Coast with her partner and dog about two months ago.
“For a long while we have been wanting to get away from Sydney because we’re not big city people,” Ms Brown said.
“The Gold Coast feels more like home than Sydney ever did.”
Ms Brown, who is renting at the moment, said she enjoyed the “slower paced lifestyle” of the coast.
“People aren’t in a rush as much as in Sydney,” she said.
“People are friendlier and it’s an easier lifestyle. The Gold Coast is beautiful.”
The pandemic did not play a direct role in her decision to move, she said but added: “Life’s short – you’ve got to do what you want to do and commit to a decision.”
Muval co-founder James Morrell said there had been more than one million searches for ‘moving house’ Covid-related questions since government restrictions began in March 2020.
The company has reported strong demand for the Gold Coast, with a 137 per cent rise in quote requests in the first half of 2021, compared to the year before.
GOLD COAST’S BIGGEST HOME SALES OF JUNE
The top ten Gold Coast suburbs requested to move into over the past 12 months were Southport, Robina, Surfers Paradise, Burleigh Heads, Helensvale, Palm Beach, Varsity Lakes, Hope Island, Broadbeach and Labrador.
A new national survey, included in Muval’s report, found half of Aussies were keen to move for a change in scenery.
The survey also revealed 40 per cent of people wanted to own their own home, while 38 per cent wanted to own their own home in addition to being a landlord.
Mr Morrell said the report aimed to explore the future of the nation as governments incentivise workers to move to the regions.
“We hope this paper sheds light on important insights to what Australia looks like moving forward as the relocation of the nation continues,” he said.
