A DEVELOPER wants to turn an ageing unit block on Broadbeach’s northern frontier into a modern 33-storey high-rise.
Plans have been filed with council to demolish the Sausalito Bay complex and replace it with Myst, a project its developer says will create a new entrance landmark for Broadbeach and be a harbinger of things to come.
Developer 14 First Avenue Pty Ltd has pitched the project, earmarked for a 678sq m site just a handful of metres from the Crown Plaza complex, as “contemporary coastal cool” and “the new 20s”.
“Myst is of an appropriate response to site and sits in line with current and expected level
of future developments within Broadbeach,” a planning report on the project reads.
“The tower addresses the city scale with height that responds to both density and future planning of the city at large.
“This is further realised through light rail and built infrastructure so, when approached from Surfers Paradise, the slender sculptural form becomes the natural ‘gateway’ to northern Broadbeach.”
The project was filed with council last week and will go before the planning committee for consideration in early 2022.
Broadbeach is at the epicentre of the city’s development boom, with billions of dollars worth of towers under construction.
They include The Star’s $400m Dorsett and $400m Epison towers, Little Projects’ $250m Signature Broadbeach and the 39-storey Infinity.
