Domino’s delivery driver Alex Edwards, 18, killed in horror crash at Mudgeeraba, Gold Coast

Friends of fatal car crash victim Alex Edwards have paid tribute to their “greatly missed” mate “taken too soon” – as his shattered family grapple with the loss of their 18-year-old ‘baby boy’.

THE grieving parents of an 18-year-old killed in a horror crash on the Gold Coast at the weekend say “they never expected anything like this to happen to our baby boy”.

Alex Edwards died when he lost control of his Toyota Yaris on Saturday at 9:15pm, slamming into a tree.

He died at the scene.

Two male passengers, both aged 17, were largely uninjured in the accident and were taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in stable conditions.
Social media has been flooded with tributes for the teen, who say their “greatly missed” mate was “taken too soon”. The tree where Alex died has been enshrined with flowers, handwritten notes and photos.

Alex’s parents were at the scene of the crash on Monday.

His mother was visibly distraught as she rearranged flowers and tribute notes plastered to the tree where her son died.

She sat down on the grassy median strip and cried as residents of a neighbouring house came to comfort her.

Alex’s father told the Bulletin the boys were on shift at the time of the crash, working as pizza delivery drivers for Dominos Mudgeeraba.

“We never expected anything like this to happen to our baby boy,” the father said tearfully on scene.

“We always read about terrible things happening to young kids, whether it be car crashes or the jumping castle incident in Tasmania. We just never thought it would happen to us.”

Heartfelt tributes for Alex duct-taped to the tree read: “We miss you Alex”.

“RIP Alex Edwards, Long will you be missed. You never failed to put smiles on all our faces,” read another.

“I love you Alex,” another wrote.

A copy of Charles Dickens’ A Tale Of Two Cities lay in the grass at the foot of the tree.

Around it, masses of flowers, including Bird of Paradise, Daffodils and English Roses.

To Alex’s parents it would be a painful and poignant reminder - for their son’s life was cut short when it was just entering full bloom.

TRIBUTES FLOW FOR ‘GREATLY MISSED’ MATE

Tributes poured in on social media over Sunday and Monday for the teen, who was killed on Saturday after wrapping his Toyota Yaris around a tree on Somerset Dr, Mudgeeraba.

He was on shift at the time working as a pizza delivery driver for Domino’s.

A schoolmate, Nakai, wrote: “I love you Alex.”

Tyla Bower said: “Forever 18”.

“Rest in peace Alex. You’ll be missed by everyone,” Renee Bawden said.

“Far out this is just the worst nightmare. My condolences to the family and there are no words for this. Speechless and gutted. I really pray for the whole family to get through this,” Karisse Phillips posted.

Charley Hanson wrote: “Rest in peace Alex. I always will remember our classes together. Taken too soon.”

“Miss you man,” James Schofeld said.

“Will be greatly missed. : (I remember playing handball with him in primary school, wishing you all the best to family and friends,” Tiana Rose wrote.

Karl Humman said: “I wish I knew you a little more Alex. May your memory be forever in my mind. Love you big guy.”
