Car's trail of destruction in Hollywell

A car has careened through a residential street, causing havoc at Hollywell this morning.

Emergency services and Energex are on the scene after a silver Mitsubishi was involved in a smash which left a white Hyundai Venture hatchback on its roof.

The silver car left that scene and continued 300m up the road, where it snapped a power pole in half, smashing through three properties, two fences and a brick wall before colliding with a parked car.

Queensland Ambulance Service said crews arrived to the rollover of the white car on Bayview Street opposite Runaway Bay Marina at 7.57am on Monday.

The hatchback was left on its roof after skidding down the street.

The silver car appears to have ripped through three front yards, destroying a carport and two fences before smashing through a brick wall and colliding with a parked car.

The female driver managed to escape the car unharmed with the help of neighbours who sat her down and made sure she was fine, shaken-up residents told the Gold Coast Bulletin.

“She’s hit the pole right in front of our house which, as you can see is in a very precarious position,” said local resident Jane Lockwood.

“Then she’s come through that first fence, taken out their carport, through to the next fence.

“She got out of the car, so as far as we know she was ok.

“Then she called a friend and a car came and picked her up - everyone was trying to keep her out (of the car), but she got in and it sped off and the police arrived just after.”

Another neighbour, Joanne Barlow, saw the car speeding through her front yard.

“I heard a bang and then I’ve run out to see her go through that last bit there,” she said.

“She grabbed her handbag - she looked pretty good, there wasn’t any cuts or anything.

“Other bystanders were here trying to keep her calm and keep her here but she got on the phone.

“Within five minutes, a NSW car turned up, she just ran to it and they sped off.

“It’s lucky no one was killed really, it was at school time.”

A QAS spokeswoman said the occupant of the white car was “up and about and talking” and was in a stable condition.

An Energex crew is attending to the powerlines.
