A TEENAGER and two mates repeatedly stabbed a father and bashed his son outside a Gold Coast pub after the two groups exchanged verbal insults.

The dad suffered wounds on his back, shoulder and abdomen and prolonged mental health conditions.

Brodie Arthur Drabsch pleaded guilty in the Southport District Court on Friday to assault occasioning bodily harm and wounding.

The court was told Drabsch, 18 at the time, and two friends were in a car leaving the Treetops Tavern in Burleigh Waters about 11pm on September 25, 2019 when they saw the father and son walking down the street.

The father and son yelled at the group, which followed them.

One of Drabsch’s friends was carrying a tomahawk.

The group attacked the son, who was punched in the eye, and a fight broke out. The father, aged in his 40s, was stabbed four times. It is not clear which of the teens wounded the man.

Judge David Kent told Drabsch: “I hope you realise the gravity of the situation you placed yourself in. If you do it again you are likely to go to jail.” Judge Kent sentenced him to 18 months’ prison, wholly suspended, and to 18 months’ probation.
