Billionaire Chris Morris record sale on Mermaid Beach’s Hedge Ave

A billionaire has sold his mansion on the Gold Coast’s multi-millionaires row for more than $20m, a record for the area’s beachfront pads. SEE INSIDE THE RECORD-BREAKING HOME

BILLIONAIRE Chris Morris has sold his mansion in Mermaid Beach’s Multi-Millionaires’ Row for more than $20 million, a 2022 record for the suburb’s beachfront.

The sale, which Hedges Ave residents say is at between $21 million and $21.5 million, comes 16 months after the Computershare co-founder bought the four-level property.

Mr Morris, overseas and unable to be contacted, paid $15.75 million for it 16 months ago.

The off-market sale comes after agents were reportedly visiting the property in recent weeks.

Agents Michael Kollosche and Harry Kakavas would not confirm the 159 Hedges Ave property had sold or that they acted for Mr Morris.

The businessman, who has pub and leisure interests that take in North Queensland, bought the 1050sqm six-bedroom home on an elevated 564sqm lot, from a Chinese couple.

He previously had owned an apartment in elite beachfront building Ocean Isles at Main Beach.

Former owners of his Hedges Ave house include Jill Mathieson, wife of pubs and pokies billionaire Bruce Mathieson, and Frank Picone, management rights industry veteran, and wife Adele.

Three bigger sales have been made on the Mermaid beachfront since 2020, led by a $25 million purchase of the family home of BreakFree founder Tony Smith and wife Simone by developer Dean Pask.

Property billionaire Bob Ell made a $22.5 million buy and Harvey Norman executive Steve Cavalier sold his home for $21.7 million.
