A CLUB famous for no plastic, a stellar view and friendly staff has been crowned the best on the Gold Coast.

Palm Beach Surf Club is a secret beachside haven and it’s been “helping the community” since 1930.

The public gave thousands of reviews on social media and Bulletin subscribers voted it the winner from 12 finalists.

Manager Daragh Murphy puts winning Best of the Gold Coast down to three things — the staff, sustainable efforts and the modern dining options.

“After winning in 2018, we were overwhelmed by the response from members and new visitors,” he said.

“We are also proud to be leading the way as the only ‘Ocean Friendly’ club on the Coast and are excited about our new food and drink menu.”

The Surfrider Foundation gave the club the title for their environmental education programs, their no single-use plastic or cling wrap policy and use of biodegradable napkins and coffee cups.

Club member Samantha Jennings, 16, said she would love Gold Coasters to check out the club, which was now filled with whales.

“Thanks to artist Sam Gowing we now have whale sculptures hanging from the ceiling for the next five weeks,” Miss Jennings said.

“It’s amazing, just like our club.

“We are a family and support each other through thick and thin.”

Palm Beach beat strong competition from BMD Northcliffe, who came in a close second.

Northcliffe, a Surfers Paradise club, was awarded 2020 Clubs QLD Best Club in Queensland (intermediate) earlier this year.
