A Gold Coast teenager who started a beauty business from her bedroom has been named the city’s best eyelash technician.
Lashes With Ange owner Angelina Loeber, 19, won the reader-voted Bulletin competition, securing 38 per cent of the votes.
Ms Loeber said she started doing lashes at just 15 years old while she was working two jobs, at Pacific Fair McDonald’s and as a piano teacher.
“Any spare time I could find between my two jobs and school I spent lashing,” she said.
“I started in my bedroom then progressed into our spare room and eventually converted our garage into a beautiful salon.”
Ms Loeber said the idea eyelash extensions ruined your lashes was “not the case”.
“It is so important that your lash tech is using safe extensions and isolating and applying them properly,” she said.
She said how much you spent on your eyelash technician often indicated how good the result would be.
“Paying $40 for a full set of lash extensions is probably going to lead to some damage,” Ms Loeber said.
In her four years of looking after local lashes, Ms Loeber said she had seen more damage caused by lash curlers than extensions.
The Marymount College graduate said being named as the best eyelash technician on the Gold Coast would catapult her career.
“It is a beautiful feeling to be recognised for all the hard work I have put in over the years,” she said.
Ms Loeber said she planned to expand her four-day beginner lash course and buy a commercial property to open her own salon.
Mermaid Waters studio Black Lash Cartel was runner-up for with 25 per cent of the vote, followed by Nerang salon Dash of Beauty with 11 per cent.
