The Gold Coast Titans are being declared top eight contenders for 2025 after backing up their win over the Newcastle Knights by taking down the Roosters on Friday night in Sydney.
The Titans proved too strong, running away with what was a tight scrappy affair for the first 60 minutes at revamped Allianz Stadium.
But a runaway intercept try for the Titans to inspiring number seven Jayden Campbell - who ran 90 metres to score - levelled the scores 12-12 before Phillip Sami, captain Tino Fa’asuamaleaui and AJ Brimson all scored in the final 15 minutes to run away with a 30-12 victory.
It prompted the Fox Sports commentator to remark that Titans coach Des Hasler “has a top eight contender on his hands for 2025” with the team racking up two wins from their first three outings this season.
Campbell said his intercept try to tie things up which ignited the Titans final quarter scoring frenzy was an “all or nothing play and luckily it paid off”.
“There’s processes there. It’s not going to work every time but we are scrambling.”
Fa’asuamaleaui said when the game started to get “messy” the Titans “stuck to our systems” and the consecutive win was helping build belief in the side.
“Every other year we have a good win then back off.
“I think what got us the win (tonight) was in the last 15 they were exhausted and we stuck to our systems and came out on top.”
Next week the Titans take on the Dolphins at home on the Gold Coast’s Cbus Super Stadium turf at 4.30pm on Saturday.
