A new restaurant has opened at Gold Coast Airport, marking a major milestone in the terminal’s $17 million refurbishment.
Beach Shack Bar and Grill, featuring live music and two-for-one tacos, debuted in the airport’s domestic departure lounge on Friday morning.
It will celebrate its grand opening by hosting Sunset Sessions over the next two Thursday and Friday nights.
The venue’s menu includes tacos, beach buckets, haloumi fries, falafels, crispy potato gems, frozen margaritas and locally distilled spirits.
Its opening is another milestone in the $17 million project to transform the old international terminal.
Other upgrades include new flooring, improved wayfinding, 70 additional flight information display boards, more than 300 additional seats and 19 new retail, food and drink outlets.
Another six food and drink venues are due to open in the coming weeks.
Queensland Airports Limited chief operating officer Marion Charlton said Gold Coast Airport had undergone its largest transformation in history over the past four years.
“It’s great we’ve been able to open this new area just in time for one of our peak periods, during the Queensland school holidays when we’re expecting more than 300,000 passengers to travel through Gold Coast Airport,” she said.
“We’ve also been able to make accessibility enhancements, including the addition of a new Changing Places facility airside to support travellers with a disability and their families and carers.”
