Gold Coast Airport’s newest retail and dining additions have been revealed as part of its ongoing $500 million transformation.
Work is underway on the first phase at the domestic terminal, with the upgrades an extension of the airport’s $260 million southern terminal expansion which officially opened a year ago.
Chief operating officer Marion Charlton said the upgrades will provide customers with more choice, while bringing the domestic terminal into line with the previous expansion.
“We want locals to be proud of their airport and these refurbishment works will deliver a modernised airport terminal with more retail, new food and beverage offerings and an expanded departure lounge,” she said.
“At the moment there is a lot of work happening in the terminal, passengers will notice some stores are closed while they are refitted and we appreciate their patience while we deliver these upgrades to help bring our customers an improved airport experience.”
The work will oversee more than 20 new stores including the second Australian store for duty free outlet Heinemann.
“To have retail partners like Heinemann expanding their footprint shows the confidence they have in our airport and that reflects the confidence that we have in this region which is why we continue to invest in improving our airport infrastructure,” Ms Charlton said.
The first phase of work will include new food and beverage outlets Merlo Coffee Roasters, Artisan Kitchen and Bakery, Two Tigers Sushi, Paradox Coffee Roasters and Bar, Schnitz and Social Espresso.
The second phase is due to start early next year and includes the refurbishment of the
departure lounge including new elements to help people navigate the airport, flight information boards, seating and a children’s play area.
Upgrades are expected to be completed mid to late 2024.
