Woman, 80s, dead after head-on crash on Tamborine Oxenford Rd

An elderly woman has died in hospital after colliding head-on with a truck on a major Gold Coast arterial road. FULL UPDATE

An elderly woman has died after a head-on crash on a major Gold Coast arterial road.

Emergency services were called to Tamborine Oxenford Road in Wongawallan at about 10am on Wednesday.

Police say a white Mitsubishi ASX - driven by an 80-year-old woman - veered onto the wrong side of the road and collided with a truck.

The woman was trapped inside her vehicle when emergency services arrived at the scene, with first responders using hydraulic cutting gear to free her from the wreckage.

She was rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition with pelvic and leg injuries. The woman died in hospital on Wednesday afternoon.

The truck driver - a 28-year-old Mermaid Beach man - suffered minor injuries. Two passengers in the truck were not physically injured.

Traffic along Tamborine Oxenford Rd was blocked following the crash.

The Forensic Crash Unit is now investigating.
