A NURSE previously embroiled in phoenixing claims relating to Queensland One Homes has been caught drunk behind the wheel.

Amber Patrice Callender pleaded guilty in the Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday for dangerous operation of a vehicle and drink driving.

The 40-year-old blew 0.082 per cent blood alcohol level after being seen driving erratically by police on Guanaba Creek Rd, Guanaba on December 20 last year.

Callender had two glasses of wine and was driving home from a friend’s place when she was stopped by police.

Magistrate Grace Kahlert fined Callender $5350 and disqualified her from driving for six months.

Callender is working as a cosmetic nurse in Miami and has been volunteering at a charity for the past three years.

Outside of court, defence lawyer Nic Tobin, of Nic Tobin Legal, declined to name the charity she worked for so it did not reflect poorly on the organisation.

Callender was the wife of Paul Callender, the former owner of Queensland One Homes, also known as Q1 Homes.

The construction company collapsed in July 2017 with $6 million in debt.

The pair have since split.

Amber Callender was the director of Empire Constructions which took on contracts of Queensland One Homes after its collapse.

She told a Federal Circuit Court public examination of the Q1 Homes collapse in October 2019 that she had no idea about the hundreds of thousands of dollars that went in and out of their joint accounts in the months before the collapse.

Callender said she “assisted’’ with the Q1 business in 2017 and was sole director of associated company Empire Constructions, which built homes in Queensland and NSW.

The couple bought a Wongawallan house for about $950,000 in 2010 and after extensive renovations, completed by Q1, it was sold in 2017 for $1.8 million, the court heard.

Callender told the court in 2019 that she attended the business’s Southport offices on the day they stopped trading as a number of creditors had not been paid. Her husband was overseas.

“Things were going on I knew wasn’t right … things were going on behind Paul’s back,’’ she said.

According to company records Callender is currently director of Callingle Pty Ltd and Odyssey Heights Pty Ltd.

Both companies were alleged to have been created after the collapse of Q1 Homes.
