Gold Coast television identity Amanda Abate will push pram power to the limit as she hits the pavement for this year’s Gold Coast Marathon weekend.
The Channel 7 Gold Coast presenter is lacing up her shoes for the 5km race on the Saturday of the July 1-2 event, with her run to support he Animal Welfare League.
“I haven’t run since having my first baby (Bobby, 2½), not even a little bit – so it’s going to be challenging,” she said.
Adding to the challenge will be Ms Abate’s running buddy – baby daughter Pia – in what will be the 10-month old’s introduction to the marathon weekend.
“She’s not the best in the pram, she’s not the happiest camper – but I’m going to try to be really quick and that might spur me on faster,” Ms Abate said.
Also among the expected 24,000 participants over the two days this year will be Ms Abate’s husband Brent Beauchamp.
“My husband has wanted to do the full marathon for years now but life got in the way,” Ms Abate said.
“Babies, Covid – but he said this was the year he wanted to do it.
“The plan was for us to train together but it’s just fallen at the wayside so I piked and said I would do the five kilometres. He’s still going with the full marathon (42km) so I wanted to be part of it.
“I’ve run in the marathon weekend before in the 10km and I just love the atmosphere, the feeling afterwards that you’ve really accomplished something.
“It’s good for me to hopefully prove to myself that I’ve still got a bit of fitness and that drive and determination to do something for me.
“I’s such a fun day and it proves you don’t have to be a full elite marathon runner to take part – there really is something for everyone.
“You get out there, have a good time and hopefully get to the finish line – that’s the bonus – the main part is just having a good time, soaking up the atmosphere and all the positive vibes coming from the crowd cheering you on – you don’t get a better run of endorphins than that.”
