Poole pleaded not guilty in the Southport Magistrates Court on Thursday to consorting with Barbaro and Todd Barnes. Barbaro is the brother of underworld fig-ure Pasquale Barbaro, fatally shot execution-style in Sydney in 2016.

Queensland Police Taskforce Maxima Detective Acting Sergeant Peter Wilmot told the court on Thu-rsday police had intelligence Poole was “known to be a senior member of the Mongols in Australia”.

“He has a national office bearer status,” he said.

It is alleged Poole met up or contacted Barbaro 70-plus times from April 24 2020 to February 21.

The court was told Poole was given a warning notice telling him he could not consort with Barbaro or Barnes under state consorting laws targeted at stopping organised crime.

The court was played footage alleged to be of Poole and Barbaro at the Miami Hotel at a party in an area decorated in pink balloons on February 21 this year.

The footage showed Barbaro and Poole appearing to chat and drink beer. Presents wrapped mostly in pink can also been seen.

It is also alleged he was with Barbaro at the Mongols private gym at an industrial shed in Biggera Waters on Anzac Day last year.

Only Mongols are permitted to attend that gym, the court heard.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Erin Livingstone said a photo was taken of the pair both at the gym.

When police seized Barbaro’s phone in March this year they also found 69 text messages sent between the pair in four days in June last year. It is also alleged Poole met with Barnes at the gym on three occasions in January.

Det. Act. Sgt. Peter Wilmot said the photos were found on a mobile phone after police completed a search warrant on another man.

The two day trial continues.
