The partner of a Gold Coast woman claims to have been caught up in an international flight debacle with a passenger who “choked out a flight attendant” being handcuffed mid-flight.
The Air Canada flight from Vancouver to Brisbane was supposed to land at 7.40am on Friday but got diverted to Honolulu after an in-flight incident.
It didn’t arrive into Brisbane until 11.45am.
The Gold Coast woman Jacqui Beadle says her partner was texting her about the drama, saying it was the “most hectic” flight he had ever been on.
“Guy choked out the flight attendant. Never saw her again,” he texted, in messages seen by the Bulletin.
“After that the guy ran up and down groping women and lifting up their skirts apparently. Some big dudes pinned him down and the male flight attendants put cuffs on him and zip ties around his legs. Then they took a bunch of straps and strapped him sideways on to a seat in the last row by himself.”
Video from inside the flight shows a male passenger handcuffed to the chair.
“I am physically wronged, I can barely feel my hands,” he yells at one point.
Another passenger is heard say: “He’s crazy, he’s screaming – I hope they get him off.”
Honolulu State Police officers came onto the flight and arrested the man when it landed in Hawaii, the partner of Ms Beadle told her.
The Air Canada AC35 flight had departed Canada about 5pm Gold Coast time.
Air Canada and Honolulu State Police have been contacted for comment.
