TENS of thousands of people have descended on the Broadwater Parklands in Southport for day one of the Gold Coast Show.
Despite forecasts predicting a chance of rain, bright sunshine greeted families who travelled from every corner of the Gold Coast, and in some cases, from much further afield.
Although a local, Carly Dove said this year was the first time she and daughter Jemima, 5, had been to the show.
“We weren’t here for the show last year so this is our first one,” she said.

“It’s a really great spot for it, it’s so nice and cool because inland you don’t get the breeze.”
Even though it’s their first time at the show, her daughter Jemima already has a specific showbag in mind.
“We’re probably going to get some showbags, and I think she has her eye on the LOL one.”
It was also the first time experiencing the Gold Coast Show for Connor McIntosh, 13, and by lunch time he had already secured a prize.
“I’m from Goondiwindi so this is my first time at the Gold Coast Show, it’s a lot of fun,” he said.
“For the prize I won you had to get numbers out of 1000 and there was about five numbers and you had to get one of them, and I think I got 641.”
For Kat Wicking, 7, finding a new showbag is the most exciting part of the day.
“My favourite part of the show is the show bags, I got the mermaid one because it has so much stuff in it and you get a whole new bag,” she said.
