It’s build has gone $1m over budget for a grand total of $3m; it will serve $895 champagne and caviar flights and has more than 320 premium hand-picked wines – welcome to what may just be Queensland’s flashiest seafood restaurant.
Blowfish Ocean Grill + Bar will open in Broadbeach on the Gold Coast this Friday and promises to be unlike anything the state has ever seen.
The 150-seat, two-storey venue is the work of hospitality gurus Steven and Autumn Adams, behind hugely popular steakhouses Moo Moo The Wine Bar and Grill in Brisbane and Broadbeach.
Designed by Space Cubed Design Studio and fitted out by Zero 9, the venue channels different depths of the ocean with the light and bright downstairs main dining room featuring a $140,000 glass chandelier imported from Canada, as well as a porcelain light feature hand crafted by artists in Belgium; while upstairs represents the ocean floor with a dark and moody private dining room boasting the latest AV equipment.
The hype around the venue has been so huge, it is already booked out for most Friday and Saturday nights until Christmas.
“There are a lot of (booking) numbers, which is fantastic – we’re so humbled by the support, it’s absolutely blown us away,” said Mr Adams.
Meanwhile, the menu promises nothing but the best and most sustainable seafood, ranging scallop and Moreton Bay bug spring rolls, king prawns and what will be their signature bug rolls to their lavish caviar flights featuring a bottle of Dom Perignon Champagne paired with Oscietra Prestige and transmontanus caviar and trout row for $895.
“We wanted to be a venue that had an offering that was different,” said Mr Adams.
“It’s not all about the money it’s about offering them an experience they might not have tried before.”
Diners will also be able to order a selection of steaks seen on their sister restaurant Moo Moo’s menu, such as pasture-fed rib on the bone and plenty of wagyu.
The food will be complemented by more than 320 premium wines, and a selection of cocktails.
The venue opens December 1.
