A teenager has been revived by paramedics and is fighting for life in hospital following a serious motorbike crash on the Gold Coast.

Emergency services raced to Pacific Pines Boulevard in Pacific Pines around 3.30pm on Sunday.

Gold Coast Acting Superintendent Scott Knowles said the 18-year-old motorcyclist had been riding at “a great rate of knots” leading up to the crash.

“Witnesses have seen him overtaking other vehicles at significant speed,” Supt Knowles said.

“He has lost control of that motorcycle and crashed into a wooden fence.”

“As a result he has some significant abdominal injuries.”

The teen was rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.

Supt Knowles said his condition had not improved on Monday morning and he remained fighting for life.

“He did actually pass away at the hospital and had to be revived,” he said.

“At the moment the Gold Coast stands at eight fatalities for this year which is one more than what we were at last year.

“Motorcyclists unfortunately are disproportionate in those fatalities.”

Supt Knowles said riders would be a high priority target of Operation Cold Snap, which started on Sunday and coincides with the school holiday period.

The dedicated traffic enforcement blitz will focus on speeding, fatigue, seatbelt use and driver distraction.

“We will be looking at specifically motorcyclists in and around the city and in the hinterland” Supt Knowles said.

“We’ll also be focusing law enforcement efforts around e-mobility devices — e-scooters, e-bicycles.”

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the crash at Pacific Pines on Sunday or who may have information regarding the incident to call 131 444.

Investigations are ongoing.
