Gold Coast: Severe storms and heavy rainfall to lash city towards end of the week

WATER has been pouring from the spillway at the Hinze Dam for the first time since April 2018 after last week’s torrential downpours.
The rain, which caused flash flooding and school closures, has caused the dam to reach 100% capacity.
The wet weather is expected to return on Wednesday, with forecasters predicting severe storms with damaging winds and heavy rainfall will hit the city.
“There’s the potential for severe storms with damaging winds and heavy rainfall in the south east,” BOM forecaster Kimba Wong said.

A few showers are also expected for Thursday with the potential for storms and showers returning on Friday.
“Across the weekend there’s likely to be showers and storms and while there’ll be break periods it’s likely to be a relatively wet weekend,” she said.
“It’s a similar atmospheric pattern to what we had last week but we won’t know more until we get closer to the weekend.
“Temperatures will likely be in the low 30s throughout this week and it will be quite humid, but it will cool down for the wet weekend.”
