Surrounded by beautiful bouquets of flowers, a young cancer patient with only weeks to live proposed to his girlfriend at a Gold Coast hospital on Thursday.

Kienan Moore might not make it to Christmas, but he has fulfilled his dying wish of putting a ring on Olivia Hinz’s finger.

The 21-year-old has clear cell sarcoma - also known as a soft tissue tumour. It started in his leg and has now invaded his lungs, groin and brain.

After having his timeframe to live cut from six months to mere weeks, Kienan wasted no time organising the proposal.

On Wednesday morning flowers started arriving at Olivia Hinz’s family home on the Gold Coast, and they didn’t stop.

“My room looked like a florist he had so many flowers delivered,” she said.

Kienan also sent a giant white teddy bear with the message ‘I love you’.

Unbeknownst to Olivia, Kienan was having even more flowers delivered to the hospital. The donations came from a generous local florist-wedding planner who did not want to be named.

At approximately 1pm on Thursday, Kienan got down on one knee and popped the big question.

Olivia, meanwhile, has been carrying Kienan’s grandad’s ring for weeks, never knowing when the proposal could happen and when she could also surprise the man she loves.

She got down on one knee after him, asking back: ‘Will you marry me too?’

To coordinate the surprise proposal, Kienan and his family asked staff at the Gold Coast Hospital to help.

They let them use an outside area where hospital staff eat lunch.

Olivia’s mum picked out a dress for her to wear before heading to the hospital on Thursday afternoon, her next hint something was in the works.

Kienan’s mother Nicole Moore then told her they were taking flowers to the radiology nurses to say thank you.

When Olivia stepped out of the elevator to an outdoor area of the hospital filled with flowers, the realisation of what was about to happen hit her.

“I was so in shock I didn’t see it coming,” Olivia said.

“It was such a beautiful surprise.”

It was a private proposal with a photographer and the florist-wedding planner hiding behind nearby trees.

The wedding planner said when she looked up she could see hundreds of people watching the proposal, noses pressed up against the glass hospital windows.

Kienan’s family, friends, other patients, doctors, and nurses were there to help celebrate.

Mrs Moore said after they’d had their private moment, family and friends began to trickle out to surround the newly engaged couple with love.

“It was so beautiful and they’re so happy,” she said.

“I’m so glad he got to do this.”

Kienan said he couldn’t believe his luck.

“I’m so overwhelmed and honestly can’t believe it happened,” he said.

“It was very emotional.”

After the engagement, Kienan was finally released from hospital after his week-long stay.

Mrs Moore said for his first night at home her living room was filled with his friends.

“I’ve never seen that many people in our place,” she said.

“He’s so loved.”

Kienan slept well and has been doing much better since leaving hospital.

This weekend, Olivia will start wedding planning with her family and friends; while Kienan attempts a boy’s trip to ride in a race car, his health permitting.
