Mount Duneed man stabbed after group of men tried to steal his car

A group of men allegedly used a machete to assault a man after he caught them trying to steal his car.

A man has been stabbed in Mount Duneed after a group of men allegedly tried to steal his car on Wednesday morning.

Officers were called to Armstrong Blvd about 4am after an alleged altercation.

Victoria Police spokeswoman Caitlin Knight said police have been told numerous offenders appeared to be breaking into and attempting to steal the victim’s car.

“It is alleged the males used a cricket bat and machete to assault the victim,” she said.

“A 43-year-old Mount Duneed man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”

Police said the group were last seen driving on the Princes Highway heading towards Melbourne.

A silver Nissan ute and a white Hyundai SUV both had its windows smashed during the incident and a window of the property was also broken.

A cricket bat was left at the scene, lying on the ground near the gutter, and smashed glass covered the road.

Geelong detectives were on the scene throughout Wednesday morning investigating the incident.
