Rescue at Bird Rock at Jan Juc beach

Emergency personnel are understood to have winched an injured teenager from a rocky and difficult-to-access corner of Jan Juc beach on Sunday.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson confirmed late on Sunday the boy had been successfully winched from the rocks and is in stable condition.

He was transported by road ambulance to Geelong hospital with a leg injury.

Onlookers reported the teen appeared to be stuck on top of the well-known local rock formation known as Bird Rock.

He appeared to be injured and could not get down.

The tide was making access a challenge with multiple emergency services on site.

SES, police and ambulance crews were on the nearby clifftops, while a helicopter hovered overhead and jetskis circled the scene from the water.

Dozens of beachgoers watched the drama unfold with the shore packed on the warm and sunny Sunday afternoon.

Bird Rock has long been a popular coastal corner with many people climbing and jumping from the rock.
