Driver on the run after car crashes into Corio home

Police are investigating after an allegedly stolen car crashed into the front of a house on Fairbairn Drive, just after 4.30am.

A car ploughed into a house in Corio on Wednesday morning.

The driver of a stolen car is on the run after crashing into a Corio home on Wednesday morning, police say.

Fairbairn Drive residents woke to a “loud bang” about 4.30am.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the allegedly stolen Mazda sedan crashed into the front of a house.

The car had ploughed through the weatherboard home’s front fence, leaving metal fencing strewn across the lawn.

A bedroom window was smashed, the contents of the room littering the front lawn.

The impact also ripped through the fance seperating the house from its neighbour.

A corner room and window also appeared to have structural damage.

“A crime scene has been established and investigations remain ongoing,” the spokeswoman said.

Police are hunting for the driver of an allegedly stolen car which they say ploughed through a Corio home.

It’s understood the residents of the home were away at the time of the crash.

Dan Droste, who lives near the scene of the crash, said he heard a “loud boom”.

“(I) was awake when I heard the increasing sound of screeching tyres lasting about five seconds, then the sounds of metal being torn apart and ended with a loud boom,” he said.

Another neighbour, who declined to be named, said they were shocked to find a car had crashed into a house.

“People sometimes belt around here and do silly stuff, but no-one’s ever hit anything,” they said.

Police said they believed the car had been stolen from Torquay.
