Oakey Boy, 15; Toowoomba girl, 16; and Goondiwindi woman, 18, charged after alleged crime spree across south west Queensland

Southern Downs police have confirmed new details relating to the three juveniles charged over an alleged crime spree around the wider Darling Downs region this week.

Three youths have been arrested over an alleged crime spree from Toowoomba to the Queensland border.

An alleged car thief who has racked up 70 charges before being busted at the tail end of an alleged region-wide crime spree has “Warwick links”, Southern Downs police have confirmed.

This comes after the 15-year-old Oakey boy and two other juveniles were charged following an alleged crime spree across the southwest region, from Toowoomba to Goondiwindi before ending in dramatic fashion in Warwick.

On Monday night, police were alerted to an allegedly stolen vehicle by highway patrol, which was first spotted in Goondiwindi.

Entering the Rose City from the west, police tracked the group on Wood and Wallace streets.

“The alleged stolen vehicle was first sighted in Goondiwindi, before patrols located it at Warwick leading to officers pursuing it,” a Warwick police officer said.

It is understood local police stung the vehicle with road spikes, leading the children to flee and dump the car in East Warwick, around the Canning St area.

The dog squad was used to locate the youths, with the 15-year-old who police believe was “the ringleader” located a short time later allegedly hiding underneath a house.

The juvenile is understood to have 70 outstanding charges, from Toowoomba, Warwick and Brisbane, which local police confirmed were mainly alleged break and enter and stealing vehicle offences.

The three other juveniles were also located and are in custody, and are understood to be facing charges.

These include an 18-year-old Goondiwindi woman and a 16-year-old Toowoomba girl who were also in the vehicle and were charged by police. It is understood the Goondiwindi woman has been released on bail.

It is understood the 15-year-old driver has “Warwick links” and has spent a small amount of time as a resident in the area, and has associates in the region as well as across wider southwest Queensland.

The 15-year-old driver has appeared in Toowoomba Children's Court on Tuesday and Thursday.
