THE head of the Surfers Paradise bar lobby is calling for life bans from entertainment precincts for those who punch-on on a night out.
Surfers Paradise Licensed Venues Association president Tim Martin, speaking this morning after the latest violent incident down party strip Orchid Avenue said it was time to put responsibility back on individuals for their actions.
“It is time these guys started getting banned for life or at least 10-year bans from the precinct. If you are a dickhead, you are a dickhead,” a fuming Mr Martin told the Bulletin.
“We need to put the blame on the individuals responsible and stop blaming everyone else,” he said.
Mr Martin, who is the general manager of Orchid Avenue nightclubs Sin City, The Bedroom and Havana, has previously called for harsher sentences for one-punch attackers and coward punchers in party precincts.
Mr Martin said the latest incident which has left a man in hospital with serious injuries after he was knocked out cold on Orchid Avenue overnight came just as a more relaxed view of licensing laws was starting to happen.

Detective Acting Inspector Greg Aubort, when asked if he believes there needs to be firmer penalties for entertainment precinct attacks, Mr Aubort said: “We work with existing legislations and I can tell you the unlawful striking causing death is a significant crime carrying a significant penalty.
“Our safe night precincts have a lot of police presence. There are a lot of people who are in jail who have a level of regret today over what happened very quickly in a passive of time.
“It’s very easy to think ‘I shouldn’t have done that’.
“Be strong, brave and courageous enough to walk away. There is no winners in situations like this.”
