A PASSING motorist has described the horrific scene of a fatal Gold Coast car smash which killed a woman who was flung from the vehicle when it rolled multiple times.

The witness said the male driver of the car which flipped on the M1 at Tugun after hitting the barrier at 2.10am on Easter Friday was pleading with him to save his female passenger.

In a Facebook post, the witness said he was driving from Sydney to the Gold Coast when he came upon the grisly scene minutes after it happened.

He said a man was yelling for help and for him to pull over.

“I get out of the car to help to see a person laying flat on the road,” he wrote, adding the woman had sustained severe head injuries.

“I’m literally in shock. This girl has zero chance of survival. She’s barely breathing,” he added.

“It’s p---ing down with rain. I’m trying to stop traffic. Meanwhile, almost getting run over by semi trailers.”

He also wrote he had alerted paramedics and that the driver was begging for him to save her.

“I replied ‘Mate I’m doing my best’,” he wrote. “I knew I couldn’t do anything but sit with this girl.”

A 28-year-old woman, from Wallsend in NSW, died in hospital yesterday following the crash, which happened at such a high impact she was thrown out of the car.

A 40-year-old male, from Richmond in NSW, was driving a Holden Commodore northbound when it collided into a barrier at about 2.10am, just before the Currumbin exit, Queensland Police said in a statement.

The car was reported to have rolled several times.

Police, critical care paramedics and the High Acuity Response Unit were called to the scene.

When transported to Gold Coast University Hospital, the woman was in a critical condition with serious injuries to her head and chest plus multiple fractures.

She died several hours later.

The driver was not injured.

The police statement said the alleged male driver was arrested in relation to other matters and was charged with failing to appear.

He will appear in Southport Magistrate Court this morning.

Forensic Crash Unit officers are investigating and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
