Burleigh Waters Armed Robbery

THE alleged president of a notorious Gold Coast bikie gang chased down a pair of bank robbers after they pointed a gun at him.

Greg Pearce, the alleged boss of the Gold Coast chapter of the Hells Angel, chased down and confronted the bank robbers yesterday, after they pointed a gun in his face following the robbery of a Burleigh Waters Suncorp bank.

The man and woman stormed the bank about 3pm, wearing dark leather jackets, dark clothing and full-face helmets.

The male walked up to the bank teller, pulled out a black handgun and demanded cash.

The woman stood off to one side and kept a look out.

It is understood the teller handed over an unknown sum of cash before the pair ran to the shopping centre car park.

Mr Pearce’s lawyer Adam Magill, of Lawler Magill Lawyers, told the Bulletin his client had the gun levelled at his face after he yelled out for them to stop.

“He was out at the shops and they were coming from the bank into the car park, where the bikes were parked and they’ve levelled the gun at him,” Mr Magill said.

“He dared him to shoot him, and they’ve run off and jumped on the one bike.

“So he’s jumped in his car and tried to chase them down, but they were on a motorbike and he was in a car.

“He said to me, ‘nobody does a robbery in my area, with my family and kids around, no one’.

“He spoke to the police and gave them his details.”

The duo hopped on to a black motorcycle with a yellow learner plate on the rear of the bike and fled along Burleigh Connection Rd.

No-one was harmed during the robbery.

Police spent Thursday afternoon combing through CCTV footage to identify the offenders and get a number plate on the motorcycle.

They released images of two people they would like to speak to, believing the pair pictured could help them in their investigation.

Police are now searching for a male around 180cm tall and a woman around 165cm tall.

Detective Inspector Chris Tritton called the actions of Pearce “brave”.

“As an individual they’ve performed a brave action. Obviously we don’t recommend that because we can’t guarantee anyone’s safety and the outcome of what could occur when you take something into your own hands, but no doubt they’ve acted on the spur of the moment on their own instinct and that is a brave action,” Insp Tritton said.

Insp Tritton revealed the pair may have run out of fuel not long after their brazen heist.

“We have new information they may have travelled along Dunlin Dr, Burleigh Waters,” he said.

“They may have been pushing the motorcycle, so we really rely on the public, in particular any dashcam or CCTV that may have captured them.”

The motorbike was later found near Dunlin Dr and Christine Ave.

Pearce was in the headlines this year for the bashing of a man out the front of a Palm Beach hotel.

Shocking footage of the incident showed Pearce punch the man, before kicking him in the head on the ground. He was fined $2500.
