A SEARCH for a suspect vehicle came to a dramatic end at a major Southport intersection last night.

The vehicle was seen to be speeding and driving dangerously on the Gold Coast by police at around 7.30pm.

According to police the vehicle, a silver Holden Commodore, was believed to have been used in connection with a number of offences across the city.

A 25-year-old man from Springfield was taken into custody by officers following an “alleged dangerous operation” of car and evading police.

A police helicopter monitored the vehicle and road spikes were deployed near the Sundale Bridge.

Witnesses say they saw the vehicle smash into another car turning on to Ada Bell Way from the Gold Coast Highway just after 8pm.

Police say the Commodore had travelled through the intersection while the traffic lights were red.

A 21-year-old woman and 24-year-old man who were in the turning vehicle were treated by paramedics at the scene.

The alleged man driving the suspect vehicle was followed by police into Broadwater Parklands.

He allegedly then rammed police cars but was boxed in by officers on the scene.

The arrested man was transported to Gold Coast Hospital with facial injuries.

A police spokesman said the suspect car was not involved in a police pursuit.

He had allegedly been wanted by police for some time.

A number of other vehicles suffered punctures to their tyres.

“It came out of nowhere, and it smashed into the car in front of us,” said one witness who was behind the vehicle being driven by the couple.

Another witness who was the first to check on the couple following the crash, said the Holden had overtaken them on the Sundale Bridge.

“It went right past us in the far left lane and was being chased by police,” the man told the Bulletin.

“The light was green so the other car was turning when it got T-boned.

“The man had no injuries but the woman had abdominal pain.”

Police have called on anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.
