POLICE have been given a deadline to wrap up an investigation into an alleged $1.5 million fraud from a Robina business after a magistrate determined it was not fair to leave the accused in limbo.

Adam Matthew Jackson, 49, was charged in November last year with 14 counts of fraud for allegedly siphoning money into his personal bank account from Localsearch Operations.

He is accused of using the cash to fund trips overseas, to buy a Mitsubishi Triton and a BMW, and to supplement his income

Localsearch Operations is owned by Adam Hargreaves who was jailed for tax evasion in 2010.

Jackson yesterday applied in the Southport Magistrates Court to have his bail conditions changed so he could have contact with his girlfriend Heidi Fisher who is also the mother of his child.

Prosecutor Don Reid told the court Ms Fisher is under investigations in relation to the fraud.

“Given the ongoing investigation to allow contact might compromise this,” Mr Reid said.

Police have not charged Ms Fisher.

Jackson’s lawyer Lisa Searing, of Buckland Allen Criminal Lawyers, said it was not fair, especially to the child, for Jackson and Ms Fisher to wait so long to find out if they can have contact.

“The arresting officer told me the investigation will finalise when it finalises,” she said.

Ms Searing said Jackson financially supported Ms Fisher and the child.

She said police had already seized the couple’s computers and phones and were going through the evidence.

Ms Searing said Jackson had made full admissions and the only dispute at the moment was the amount of money taken.

Magistrate John Costanzo denied the bail variation but warned Jackson could apply again in March.

“I would consider that three months from the date the materials were received as sufficient for police to make a play,” he said.

Mr Costanzo gave police until March 25 after which Jackson could come to court again to apply to have contact with Ms Fisher.
