Love on the M1: Motorway Romeo in search of the one

He was travelling northbound on the M1 on Monday when he was hit, not by a car, but by cupid’s arrow. Now the romantic journey is taking another turn

Meet Australia’s oldest couple

LIKE any great romance, it was only a look that sparked this motorway Romeo’s search for his mystery girl.

Ashley Day was travelling northbound on the M1 last Monday when he was hit, not by a car, but by cupid’s arrow.

After a short exchange with a blonde driving a black Ford Fiesta, the self described romantic was besotted. That was until she took the Helensvale exit, never to be seen again.

Desperate to find the dream girl, Mr Day has launched an online campaign in the hopes of getting in contact with her.

“URGENT! This is a strange post but today while driving home on the M1 northbound I saw a very beautiful girl in a black Ford Fiesta,” his message to a Gold Coast community page read.

“If you are on here message me.”

Mr Day, who lives in Brisbane, admitted the public post was out of the ordinary, but this was a cause worth chasing.

“It’s not something I normally do but we were driving along and I looked over and saw a blonde girl driving and I was just thinking that she is super pretty,” Mr Day told the Bulletin.

“Then she looked up at me and her face just blew me away! So I waved at her.”

The BCF salesman said he was surprised when the mystery girl waved back.

“It was a really sweet wave as well … well as sweet as a wave can be.

“Then unfortunately she took an exit from the highway and I lost her.”

Despite his inquiries, he is still searching.

Should he find the mystery girl, the 21-year-old hopes to treat her to a date.

“I would probably start by picking her up and open the car door for her like a gentleman, then take her to a nice restaurant along the beachfront,” he told the Bulletin.

“Then maybe a movie and finish the night with a walk along the beach in the moonlight before I take her back home.

“I know it’s a bit cliche but I think that she should enjoy that, I hope she would anyway.”

Mr Day says he is an easy going guy who likes surfing and fishing.

“I love the water and everything in it, especially sharks,” Mr Day said.

“I try to help out as much as I can with ocean conservation too, cleaning the beach and picking up plastic.”
