COUNCILLOR Pauline Young wants to draw a line in the sand when it comes to parking at Nobby Beach.
Well, lines on the side of the road at least.
Cr Young is ordering designated parking bays along at least nine residential streets to stop people parking on sharp corners and in front of driveways. Officers are investigating.
She said this was in response to a Gold Coast Bulletin report in which a resident told how she could not get out of her driveway one recent weekend from Friday night to Monday morning.
Nobby Beach Neighbourhood Watch convener Geoff Krebs said parking was the biggest issue in the suburb.

Cr Young said formalised parking spaces in the streets was the best way to manage the problem.
“All the residents that live in the area are expressing concerns about parking,” she said.
“People who are going to those fantastic restaurants at night are not being considerate to residents in those backstreets.”
The streets included Albatross Ave, Seagull Ave, Petrel Ave, Chairlift Ave, Lavarack Rd, Wave St, Surf St, Heron Ave and Seashell Ave.
“If we have formalised bays we might lose a carpark here and there but it makes it easier for officers to patrol the area,” Cr Young said.

“This will mean residents can get into and out of their driveways without someone being a spotter and people who park on yellow lines will be penalised.”
Nobby Beach resident Sven Peuter said residents spent a lot of time complaining about parking.
“Anything that can be done to fix the issue … but I am not sure this is it,” he said.
“At this stage, unless I had more information I would not support Pauline’s motion without other meetings or conversations.”
The council is investigating the option of painting parking bays at Nobby Beach. It does not have a date of when it might be implemented.
