GOLD Coast Mayor Tom Tate has rejected accusations the bureaucracy running the Gold Coast City Council.

More than 90 per cent of the decisions made by “delegated authority”, meaning administrators and council officers have the final say.

Only 74 of the 567 decisions made have been made by a vote by councillors.

“The best thing that I would say was delegation and passing to the administration is a good idea because it removes red tape and people want the decision to get going with it,” Cr Tate said.

“As far as policy decision is concerned, it will still go to full council to make the decision, nothing has changed there.”

Cr Tate said it was up to the council officers to set the policy.

“Once we set the agenda it’s over to the offices to deliver it to the city,” he said.

“This is the most united council in the last six years, that’s why we are focusing on policy,” he said.

“When you have a united council like this, you have made your policy decision and it’s over to the officers to deliver.”

The mayor said that was why policies and documents were in place such as the City Plan.
