GOLD Coast Mayor Tom Tate has suggested moving the Oxenford Pony Club after erosion caused major damage last week.
Residents using the John Muntz Bridge in Upper Coomera had raised concern about the bridge after erosion at the nearby Pony Club caused by extreme weather.
A large section of council land used by the club was sucked away by the current and disappeared.
Mayor Tate this afternoon suggested relocating the club may be a more appropriate solution for council than trying to fight the erosion.
“What I want to do now is to investigate whether or not we should work with the Pony Club and look for an alternative site,” he said.
“(Rather than) spend money there and fight against mother nature, it might be better to find another location that’s more secure.”

He added there needed to be a “long term” solution to erosion near the bridge.
“I would want to look at a more cost effective long term solution,” he said.
“At the very least we’ll have to look at whether we dredge that part of (the river) to make sure the bridge is protected.”
