Green Bridge HOTA: Man streaks across Gold Coast’s newest bridge

A man has wasted no time in fulfilling an ambition to mark the opening of the Gold Coast’s newest bridge in daring fashion.

A GOLD Coast larrikin has bared all in an attempt to make local history.

Disappointed he was not among the first people to cross the new HOTA Green Bridge during the opening ceremony yesterday, he decided he would instead be the first to do it stark naked.

The long term Chevron Island resident said he had been hanging out for weeks, watching the construction of the new bridge, hoping to be the first to cross.

The Green Bridge streaker "just wanted to do something".

“I've been coming to the bridge for the past few nights, wanting to sneak over but I saw there were security guards and cameras,” the man told the Bulletin.

“I am a bit too old to get chased so I thought I’d just wait till the opening.”

Waking up early Sunday morning the man said he was again disappointed when he discovered the honours were instead given to Gold Coast City councillors.

“It was busy in the morning when they cut the ribbon, everyone was lined up with scooters and their dogs, I wasn’t going to get in front,” he said.

“But it was a historical occasion for the area, I lived here for a long time so I wanted to be part of it.

“I thought if I couldn’t be the first to walk across it, I’ll be the first to streak across it.”

True to his word, the middle aged man stripped down to his birthday suit Sunday evening to film his run across the bridge.

“I am not a streaker usually, its not something I’ve done before but I just thought f*** it- this is special.

“I think it is a great place to put the bridge and it is going to be a good thing for the suburb.

“I just love Chevron Island and am happy to be part of its history, as the bridge’s first streaker.”
