THOUSANDS of pounding feet helped baptise the new $19.5 million Green Bridge linking the Home of the Arts to Chevron Island this weekend.
Opened in a carnival like atmosphere Mayor Tom Tate cut the ribbon on the city's newest addition Sunday morning, taking the first walk across the blue walkway with hundreds of residents.

“This bridge will serve as a vital active transport link and make our evolving cultural precinct so much more accessible – easy walking distance from Surfers Paradise and the light rail,” Mr Tate said.
“People wanting to visit HOTA for a show or the gallery, or go for a swim at Evandale Lake will be able to walk or cycle from Surfers Paradise or Chevron Island and arrive directly in the precinct.
“It’s a much anticipated bridge that is giving residents and visitors easier access to enjoy the arts and the outdoors.”
GOLD COAST DEVELOPMENT: CONSTRUCTION BEGINS ON $60.5M ART GALLERY
The green bridge precedes the delivery of the $60.5 million art gallery, due to open early 2021.
The bridge is hoped to revitalise businesses in the Chevron Island precinct by linking it to the event’s space.
