Gold Coast Show 2020: When public holiday will take place
Council is to consider switching the Gold Coast Show public holiday to another date following news the annual event won’t take place this year.

THE future of the Gold Coast Show holiday will be decided next week.
The Show is expected to be postponed until 2021 when the council meets next week after consultation with organisers.
Mayor Tom Tate earlier this week said it was unlikely to go ahead, sparking questions over whether the traditional public holiday would still take place.
Cr Tate told the Bulletin this afternoon a public holiday would still be held, but not necessarily in the final week of August.

He vowed a long weekend would still be on the cards.
“We will definitely be keeping the show day a Friday but if there’s a better date, I’d be interested in looking at that and we will discuss it at next council,” he said.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk this morning confirmed that local governments could make decisions on when to hold their public holiday, despite agricultural and produce shows being cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Brisbane City Council will move its mid-week Ekka holiday from Wednesday, August 12 to Friday, August 14, allowing locals to have a long weekend and to bolster tourism.
