COUNCIL is about to tick off major changes to the cultural precinct.
Councillors at a transport and infrastructure committee meeting starting at 9am have begun looking at the new designs for the green bridge and art gallery.

The green bridge designs show a much straighter and smoother design linking Chevron Island. It will have a 4.8m clearance allowing for craft to pass under.

The arts gallery will no longer see a fruit tingle tower.
The new design is much greener and fits in with the surroundings.

GREEN BRIDGE TO CULTURAL PRECINCT ON THE HORIZON
Councillors were told a contract for design and construction of the bridge had been signed. It will cost $19.5 million.

An officer’s report reveals a time line which shows the art gallery will open in January 2021.
The green bridge is scheduled to be completed in October 2019.
GAMES TO LEAVE $30B DEVELOPMENT LEGACY
Mayor Tom Tate, who is attending the committee meeting, is expected to brief the media this morning.
He has told councillors about the need to remove a substation from the site.
It will cost $670,000 and be debated at the next special budget meeting.
Councillor Tate said savings had been made on the green bridge which was originally thought to cost $34 million.
