A HOUSE is set to be transformed into a waterside bar and restaurant with one of the Gold Coast’s best views in the latest transformative move for its suburb.

AN OLD house is set to be transformed into the Gold Coast’s newest bar and restaurant, with million dollar views and a location industry leaders have hailed as ‘perfect.’

The Chevron Island house on Stanhill Drive will become the first eatery to front the Nerang River and will be created next to the proposed multimillion-dollar ‘friendship’ bridge which will connect the Island with the Evandale Cultural precinct.

The existing house will be gutted and transformed into the dining venue which will feature indoor and outdoor seating areas overlooking the river and Surfers Paradise skyline as well as a takeaway coffee bar.

Its upstairs bedrooms will be retained as caretaker’s accommodation.

Customers would be able to leave the restaurant and cross public land onto the bridge which will go over the Nerang River to the cultural precinct which hosts the Home of the Arts (HOTA), Evandale Lake, parkland and the Gold Coast City Council chambers.

GAMES TO LEAVE $30B DEVELOPMENT LEGACY

Restaurant Industry Support Gold Coast Association president Glen Day said the new eatery was in the ‘perfect’ location to capitalise on the increasing pedestrian traffic which is expected to flow through the area once the bridge was open.

“It would be in just the right spot for a restaurant and would have a very nice view,” he said.

GOLDEN OLDIES’ $3.5 BILLION BOOM

“You have to be where the people are and there are going to be quite a lot of people who will be coming through there so I think they will be in the perfect position.

“It is a very competitive world out there at the moment and I wish them luck.”

A development application was made to the Gold Coast City Council by Filipovic Holdings this week.

It will feature three carparking spots at the site and is expected to employ up to 12 people once open.

The remainder will be serviced by on-street parking as well as those spots available at HOTA.

The restaurant’s opening hours could run from 6am to midnight seven days a week, according to the application documents.

Council last year voted to go ahead with the bridge, which will be built as part of the cultural precinct’s second stage, along with a $60 million art gallery.

Tenders were called for the bridge last year and it is expected to be funded in next week’s council budget.

Construction is likely to begin next year.
