Firefighters had a long 10-hour plus stint at the Broadbeach restaurant and dining strip - until 8pm on Thursday - after a malfunctioning car lifter collapsed onto a car with a woman inside.
Crews were called to the underground carpark on Oracle Boulevard around 9.30am after the lifter which suffered some sort of mechanical error fell and trapped another vehicle underneath it.
The driver inside the vehicle that was partially crushed - and believed to be an employee of popular radio station Sea FM 90.9 - was not injured in the incident.
It is claimed the woman was reversing into the parking space when the lifter malfunction, falling on the back half of her car.
It is believed the woman was able to get out of the car via her driver’s side door and that a damaged hydraulic line caused the mechanical failure.
A Queensland Fire Department (QFD) spokesperson said they were unable to remove the trapped vehicle from the carpark.
“A car stacker system failed and fell onto the vehicle, there were no entrapments and a person was able to get out of the vehicle safely before our crews arrived,” he said.
“[The car stacker system] was protracted in an effort to remove the vehicles but the scene was eventually handed over the site management and specialist [car stacker system] technicians.
“We tried to assist but ended up being unable to recover the vehicles because there was a failure of a lift that was being used in an attempt to recover the cars.”
A QFD spokeswoman said they remained on scene until around 8pm.
