A teenagers has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries following a car and scooter collision near a Gold Coast primary school.

The incident was reported shortly before 8.30am on Thursday along Christine Ave, Varsity Lakes.

A Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) spokeswoman said paramedics, including the specialist High Acuity Response Unit (HARU) treated a male teenager for “potentially significant” head injuries.

He was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition for further treatment.

The collision occurred close to the Varsity College Primary Campus – traffic was affected in the area as emergency services responded, but had eased by about mid-morning.
