A beloved Far North Queensland Police dog who helped track down 300 offenders in his six-year career, is being remembered as a “brilliant working dog” after his tragic death.

A beloved Far North Queensland Police dog who helped track down 300 offenders in his six-year career, is being remembered as a “brilliant working dog” after his tragic death.
PD Thor has been an invaluable member of the Queensland Police Force and a “partner against crime” for his handler Senior Constable Dan Fysh since 2017.
PD Thor was the second police dog for Senior Constable Fysh, whose family who are still grieving the recent loss of retired PD Hahm.
Senior Constable Fysh discovered PD Thor suffering from an unexpected medical condition in the backyard at his home on Friday, before rushing him to the vet.
Sadly, PD Thor did not survive the emergency surgery.

The pair were an inseparable both at home and at work, with Senior Constable Fysh describing PD Thor as the complete package.
“He had the perfect temperament; he was a wonderful family dog and a brilliant working dog,” Senior Constable Fysh said

“He knew his job and was without a doubt, my best mate.”

Described as an amazing tracker, PD Thor located more than 300 offenders during his six years serving in the Far North community.

One of the duo’s most memorable encounters was tracking an offender to a creek in Edmonton.

“Several years ago, PD Thor and I tracked an offender wanted for break and enter and assault of a police officer,” Senior Constable Fysh said.

“We tracked to a deep creek in Edmonton and for the life of me, I couldn’t see anything, but Thor knew there was something there. T

“Thor jumped into the creek and swam to the fully submerged offender”.

“Despite the offender trying to drown Thor, he managed to hang on and the offender was taken into custody by waiting officers.

“Without PD Thor on that job, it is likely that we (police) would never have found the offender that night.”

Fellow Dog Squad members have described PD Thor as a “cracking dog who was an amazing tracker and one of the best natured dogs they have ever come across.”

Police media released a statement commemorating PD Thor’s service.

“Our thoughts are with Senior Constable Fysh and his family at this very sad time” the statement read.

“We sincerely thank PD Thor for his service to the Far North community.

“Rest in peace buddy, PD Hahm is waiting and ready to get up to mischief with you again,”
